Set <ph conkeyref="vbox-conkeyref-phrases/product-name"/> Preferences

Use the Preferences to change settings that apply to all virtual machines.

Settings will differ, depending on your host OS.

  1. From the File menu, choose Preferences.

  2. Choose your preferred experience level. To display all preferences, set the experience level to Expert.

  3. On the General tab, specify the default folder or directory for VM files, and the VRDP Authentication Library.

  4. On the Input tab, set keyboard shortcuts, both in and in individual VMs. For example you might want to specify a different Host key. This is the key that toggles whether the cursor is in the focus of the VM or the Host OS windows, see . The Host key is also used to trigger certain VM actions, see .

  5. On the Update tab, select the type of software updates you want to install, and how frequently to check for updates.

  6. On the Language tab, choose the language used for menus, labels, and text in .

  7. On the Display tab, specify the display properties for all VM displays.

  8. On the Proxy tab, configure an HTTP proxy server if you need one.

  9. On the Interface tab, select a color theme for the VirtualBox Manager user interface. This option is available on Windows 10 only. Other OSs use system settings.
